Pillars of Bengaluru envisions the transformation of forty-four pillars at the Hebbagodi metro station into works of art. A collaborative effort by a team of 6, this project re-imagines the pillars as the people who make this city vibrant, celebrating Bengaluru's diverse population. This project is a part of Biocon's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, and our team’s concept was chosen and funded to be painted.

Who are these Pillars?
Pillars of Bengaluru are people of the city who form the essence of Bengaluru, without whom Bengaluru will not function, without whom Bengaluru would lose its identity. Inspired by the Channapatna craft, these pillars not only add visual allure but enlighten passersby about Karnataka's local people, and traditional art and craft. We have categorised these diverse range of people into six categories.
The Categories
Caring Bengaluru
Nourishing Bengaluru
Embellishing Bengaluru
Moving Bengaluru
Building Bengaluru
Upholding Bengaluru

Finding Stories in the City
To find the people who form the pillars of Bengaluru, we observed, conversed, and took pictures documenting stories and the details of the people who would form the characters of our pillars. Whether it was the bus conductor Anand’s ticket machine, or the police officer Ganesh’s pocket squares, we have added these details to our illustrations, and derived our colour palette inspiration from them.
